Tettegouche Visitor Center - Silver Bay
All about steelhead! Join us for a clinic specifically geared towards targeting migratory fish on the North Shore. Learn about regulations, gear, techniques, and the species you can chase on the fly in this beautiful area of Minnesota.
This Clinic is targeted towards beginners who may not have steelheading experience, but have their own gear and are able to safely wade and maneuver along the dirt & rocky trails of the North Shore. This will be entry level wading but a wading staff is recommended.
Where: Tettegouche Visitor Center Pavillion
5702 MN-61, Silver Bay, MN 55614
What we’ll Cover:
We review fishing equipment that is suitable for the techniques commonly used for steelheading: rods, reels, line, knots, flies/yarn, and misc extras.
We give a brief summary on steelhead/Kamloops and the spring spawning run. We also go into detail on how to read water and provide some tips on safe river crossing.
After some general overview we will hit the water so each group will have some hands on instruction on locating fish, fly/yarn selection, and presentation. Note this is not a casting class but some assistance will be provided as needed.
What to Bring? MN fishing license with trout stamp, fishing equipment (7-8WT rod, reel), flies (large nymphs, egg patterns), net, forceps, waders (with wading belt), rain gear, polarized sun glasses, camera, lunch.
