Spring Member Meeting 2016

Fly Fishing Women of Mn held our annual Spring meeting May 26, 2016 at the Urban Growler Brewery in St. Paul.  19 members attended of which 25% were new members.  It was a great time to socialize, meet new folks and just talk fishing. Monta lead the meeting.  She acknowledged present board members and encouraged others to consider running for board positions that will be open in the fall.  Activities and club accomplishments from Nov. 2015 – May 2016 were noted with  increased membership being  highlighted!  Members were encouraged to use the web site, bring in new members, watch the web page’s Events and Forum to stay aware of upcoming activities. T-shirts were sold.  The evening was quite enjoyable!

Spring Member Meeting 2017-7

Fall Board Meeting and Luncheon Nov. 7, 2015

Twenty-two members were welcomed to the membership meeting at Joseph’s Restaurant in Saint Paul by present Board Members – Linda Radimecky (Chair), Sally Dunn, Kelly Edwards, Monta Hayner, Ellen Murphy, Cindy Winslow. Members started socializing at 11:00AM with the business portion of the meeting commencing at 11:30. Linda introduced current board members followed by a move to accept the slate of new candidates for the 2016 year.

Monta moved into her new position as Chair extending a thank you to past board members and introducing candidates for open board positions. A vote was taken and Candace Carlson ( Member-at-Large) and Betty Hoernermann (Treasurer) were unanimously accepted.  It should be noted that the position of Vice-chair is still open.

Monta continued by reviewing the events of the past year and promoting future events for 2016. Watch the web site for the list and dates of these coming events. A lively discussion ensued regarding a proposed change to the lifetime membership fee. Member Nancy made the motion that the Board review the by-laws, make a suggestion regarding lifetime membership fee to the membership, and take a vote by Survey Monkey. Member Carol seconded.  All were in favor with 1 abstention.  It was also noted that the Board will take time this year to review other possible changes in by-law items.

Other information items included:

  • the use/review of the new website offered at the end of the meeting
  • the implementation of a privacy policy for personal information of members
  • the status of acceptance from the State Dept. of the club’s 501C7 application

Lastly, mention was made of a River Falls Expo , March 11-12, 2016. Contact Lund’s Fly Shop in River Falls for additional information.

Wonderful “fishing stories” were shared by Kelly Edwards (Women’s FlyFishing Alaska) and Kay Ortscheid (FlyFishing the Mississippi)! Our very informative guest speaker was Bob Trevis.  Bob shared useful information about fishing the “Driftless” section of Southwest Minnesota for both “newbie” and advanced FlyFishing people. His handout was a valuable A Guide’s Cheat Sheet of the area.

The meeting closed at 2:00 after Silent Auction high bidders were announced. A fun time was had by all!

Annual Banquet 2012

We held our annual banquet tonight in Lake Elmo, MN, at the Lake Elmo Inn. The restaurant was festive and very accommodating to the group and we all had a great time . . .

Besides just visiting and enjoying the food, our purpose was to approve the by-laws of the organization. We have had a planning committee that has been in charge of the group for several years. Some of them have been “at it” for a long time. By setting up by-laws, we formalized the organizational structure somewhat and, hopefully, will get more of the group involved in making some of the planning decisions.

After a very short discussion, the new by-laws passed and a new era begins for the group in 2013–very exciting. The actual aims and goals of the group will not change while the leaders might change but there will also be continuity.

Some years we have had several drawings. This year we had only one: a full day of guided fishing donated by Trout Laws.

It is always great to have a group that likes to “come out and play” together!!!

VISITING AND GETTING CAUGHT UP ON FISH STORIES AND TRAVELS: Above: Monica, Sally and Sue enjoy some time to visit in front of the fire.
Carol was the winner and Sue presented the prize. Now Carol can invite a friend to join her for a day of drifting for smallies or a day of wading for trout in one of the streams in the Driftless area.
The group photo: Seated: Sue R., Linda, Mary Beth, Val and Jodie. Standing: Chris, Gini, Monica, Sally, Carol, Nancy, Sue W., Sue N., Gine, Trish and Grace. This ends a successful year of group activities. The next activities will be indoor fly casting lessons in January, fly tying and reading the water in February.
