Annual Banquet 2017
Fly Fishing Women of Minnesota
Close to 35 women gathered at Joseph’s Restaurant in St. Paul bringing to a close the 2017 fishing season on Nov. 12. In addition to the dinner of fish, wild rice, chicken and pasta a business meeting took place. Our club membership is at an all time high with 135 members, 23 being new. What would our banquet experience be if 2/3 of the membership attended? Maybe next year!
Our out going Board members (Monta Hayner-chair, Betty Horneman-treasurer, Elizabeth Ahlin-member at large) were thanked for all the activities they organized during the past year and given hand crafted (Linda Radimecky) fish pens. New Board members include Linda Radimecky (chair) Hillary Pennella (vice chair), Elizabeth Ahlin (treasurer), Cori Berrigan (member at large). Our 1st meeting of the 2018 Board will be held Dec. 12, 2017.
Other Banquet presentations included an overview of a trip taken last June bySally Dunn and Cinda Collins to the San Juan River. Any one interested in a 2018 trip should contact Sally. Grace Glander shared this year’s experience of Casting For Recovery. Linda Radimecky and Ellen Murphy updated the group on the Girl’s Fish Program. Our club received a $10,000 grant from the DNR to include more ethnicly diverse women in fly fishing. Lastly, Fly Fishing Women honored Carol Morten, a longtime member, for the outstanding work she has accomplished over the years. Carol has taught many women the art of fly fishing and instilled a love and respect for the outdoors thought this sport. As a token of our gratitude, Carol was presented a beautiful shadow box (created by Grace Glander) of 9 of her favorite flies and photos of some of her great catches.
We were grateful to Sam Lucido of Laughing Trout Fly Tying Group, for the 12 dozen flies he donated to our Fly Bar. Members went home with 4 new flies of their choice to use for future fishing.
